Application tips.

Our recruitment process

As an agency, we believe in the potential of young people and believe they have the motivations, enthusiasm and dedication to lead change and development. This is also reflected in how we recruit for positions within our agency. We understand that it is not always necessary to have had direct experience of a role or particular qualifications, so instead in each stage of the application process we look for transferable knowledge and skills plus the motivation and passion which align with our values.

We are also dedicated to the professional and personal development of our staff and have a wide variety of training and development opportunities to support staff to grow in their role and develop as leaders.

How to Apply

When a role is advertised, we ask all candidates for a role to complete an identical application form so we can compare all the candidates fairly against the same criteria. Before completing, please read the Job Description carefully.

In the first section of the Application Form, we ask you to provide a short answer on how your own motivation and passion aligns with Restless Development’s Values and the role being applied for. What we’d love to see is what makes you who you are. Tell us about a cause that you have a proven passion for or what makes you excited about what you can achieve in this role and with Restless, using our Values to guide you.

In the second section, we ask you to provide examples of how your skills, knowledge and experience match against each of the ‘key priorities’ of the role as outlined in the Job Description. Your examples can be from your working, volunteering or personal life.

If you like, you can structure your answer by using each ‘key priority’ as a paragraph heading and addressing each priority individually by giving examples. You can also use the ‘STAR’ technique to help you answer:

  • Situation: set the context for your example – when and where was this and what happened?
  • Task: what was required of you/ what was your involvement?
  • Action: tell us what you did and how you did it.
  • Result: what was the outcome of your actions?

Where possible, the example should highlight either a positive result, an achievement, or a situation where you have reflected you would do things differently.

Shortlisting

Once the deadline has closed, the hiring manager and interview panelists will review each application form. Applicants will be shortlisted using an assessment form with a scoring criteria to assess how well you’ve met the advertised priorities of the role. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to interview.

Unfortunately, due to the volume of applicants we normally receive and our limited resources we’re unable to provide feedback to applicants not invited to interview. We will endeavour to provide an outcome decision via email and strongly encourage subsequent applications for other vacancies in the future.

Interview & assessment

Our structured interviews ask all candidates the same competency and scenario-based questions relevant to the role. Each interview panelist scores candidates against the same criteria using an application scoring form.

To prepare for the interview we recommend doing some research and preparation:

  • What do you know about the agency, the team and the role?
  • Think about what might be expected of you in the role.
  • Read through the Job Description and your application again.
  • Don’t be afraid to repeat what you’re said in your application – some of the interview panelists may be hearing it for the first time or won’t remember.
  • Think about the key successes or achievements relevant to the role that you would like the interview panel to hear about.

Depending on the role level you may be asked to interview a number of times. The assessment process may also involve written and interactive exercises. You will be informed of these in advance so you’re able to prepare. These assessments are designed to demonstrate your ability to perform in the role as well as giving you an idea of what the role will involve.

We will provide detailed feedback to all interviewed candidates.

Referencing

If successful, your employment will be subject to at least two satisfactory references, one of which must be from your current or most recent employer. As part of our commitment to safeguarding, we also require to carry out a criminal background check in each of our locations.

Your Restless Way Induction

After successfully meeting the employment offer conditions, we’ll formally contract you. We have a global Restless Way induction package that all of our global staff complete. This will help you settle into your new role, get to know your colleagues and what makes the culture and performance of Restless Development unique.
