Audio Visual Series: The National Strike

The National Strike – Art as a tool for memory and proposal

When the National Strike broke out on April 28, 2021 in Colombia, most of those killed were young people aged 13 to 28 years-old. The government silenced their deaths and tried to silence the voices of the survivors. However, youth civil society reacted by creating an audiovisual series as a process of systematisation-creation bringing together the voices and expressions of more than 50 artists, most of them young, who participated in the social mobilisations in Colombia. This spotlight features four videos and songs they created.

Cuando la huelga nacional estalló el 28 de Abril del 2021 en Colombia, la mayoría de los que fueron asesinados fueron jóvenes de 13 a 28 años. El gobierno silenció sus muertes y trató de silenciar las voces de los sobrevivientes. Sin embargo, la sociedad civil juvenil reaccionó creando una serie audiovisual como un proceso de sistematización-creación juntando las voces y expresiones de más de 50 artistas, la mayoría de ellos jóvenes, que participaron de las movilizaciones sociales en Colombia. Esta historia destacada tiene cuatro videos y canciones que crearon.
